At the Chinese AP Press Conference,
from left: Zhang Min, Minister Liu Chuansheng, You might have already heard or read about the news on the creation of the AP Chinese exam. A news conference was jointly given by Ambassador Yang Jiechi of the People's Republic of China and Mr. Gaston Caperton, President of the College Board on December 5, 2003 at Washington D. C. Yu-Lan Lin, Lucy Lee, and I were invited, representing CLASS, to attend this significant and historical event. The Chinese Ministry of Education has offered the generous financial support that is needed to begin the development of the AP Chinese course and examination. The College Board will be seeking additional grants for the development of AP Chinese course guidelines, the content of examination, and the training for AP Chinese teachers; therefore, we do not need to do any fund raising, although we still have a lot to do and there is a long way ahead of us. The AP Chinese course guidelines will be ready in 2006 and our students will be able to take the first AP Chinese exam in 2007. -- Zhang Min Read the
