In the past five years, a group of K-12 and post secondary Chinese educators have worked closely to extend the K-12 content standards to include the K-13 and K-16 progress indicators for the 11 standards and scenarios for each of the five goals. The scenarios have been field tested at the college level with positive feedback from both learners and instructors. We would like to unveil the K-16 National Chinese Standards by sharing how the K-16 Chinese project has redefined K-16 articulation by a series of tasks in thematic-based learning scenarios so that all stake holders have a clearer understanding of what students at each level know and can do in terms of both content and skills. We believe that our endeavor in defining articulation by standard based tasks will help Chinese educators to assist all learners achieve and maintain higher proficiency ,which in term will improve the sustainability of our Chinese programs in the long run.
We can also offer GO TO MEETING connection if the teachers can’t join us on the Choate campus. Please contact Dr. Carol Chen Lin at cchenlin@choate.edu if you would like to join us via GO TO MEETING connection.
