Announcement for The ChinHuei Yeh Memorial Scholarship in 2023

The CLASS Awards Committee is delighted to continue The ChinHuei Yeh Memorial Scholarship for 2023. The committee will be accepting applications through November 1, 2023. The recipient award ceremony will be held at the annual CLASS Luncheon on Saturday, November 18, 2023, which is held in conjunction with the 2023 ACTFL Convention in Chicago, IL from November 17 through November 19, 2023. This scholarship will partially fund a first-time attendee to the ACTFL/CLASS Convention.

We encourage qualified teachers to consider submitting applications according to the instructions below. CLASS accepts both self-nomination and/or a nomination made by a school administrator. All applicants will gain recognition for their school and district for their professional efforts in supporting the teaching and learning of Chinese language and culture. Attending the ACTFL/CLASS convention will provide the first-time attendee a life-changing professional experience at the early stage of his/her career. CLASS cordially invites first-time attendees to apply for this scholarship as we honor Yeh laoshi’s legacy, and to take pride in our teaching profession at the national level during the annual ACTFL Convention.

Please submit your application materials/documents in one package via email to yulanlin26@yahoo.com by Nov1, 2023. The CLASS Awards Committee will acknowledge your submission through email. Please note that any application with missing documents will not be accepted. The scholarship recipient will be notified via e-mail by Nov 3 2023. The scholarship recipient is responsible for registration and making his/her own travel arrangements to attend the CLASS sponsored sessions at the 2023 ACTFL Convention in Chicago.

To apply, please submit the following materials/documents in one application package via e-mail to yulanlin26@yahoo.com by Nov 1, 2023.

● A cover letter indicating the applicant’s personal information such as name, address, school name and address, principal’s name and email contact, and a proof of the applicant’s CLASS membership in the current year of the application. (A CLASS member card can be printed out through your personal account on the CLASS membership site.) ● An up-to-date curriculum vitae that indicates total years of service in the Chinese teaching field and

employment history.

● As a first-time attendee, please explain in no more than 150 words how you think participating in the ACTFL/CLASS 2023 Convention will benefit your language education career.

● A one-page statement in response to the following:

Yeh laoshi tirelessly provided proficiency-based language instruction to her students in school, utilizing technology as a tool for teaching and constantly striving to learn new tools and skills for use in the classroom. She was just as committed to sharing her expertise with fellow teachers at conferences and other professional development events.

A) How would you honor Yeh laoshi’s legacy in your teaching? B) Would you consider participating in this year’s CLASS SWAP session sharing one of your teaching activities in 5-10 minutes? C) Sharing your thoughts after the convention with CLASS members, D) And/or submitting a proposal for next year’s CLASS/ACTFL Convention?

● One recommendation letter from the school administrator.
